THE EVENING STAR, WASHINGTON. D. C, FRIDAY, MARCH 5, In thre“ Hunt Country Activities Among the Horse-Lovers of Virginia and Maryland. BY NINA CARTER TABB. HERE has been very good hunt- ing with all packs of hounds this week and as the season is | fast drawing to a close hunts | are going out whenever possible. The | Middleburg Hunt will close its season March 20 with the annual hunter | trials, to be held at the Glenwood race course. On the same day the hunt will hold the old-fashioned point-to- | point race, an event that was held before the hunter trials last year. | There will be & race for individuals and one for pairs competing for the big, silver bowl in the main event of | the hunter trials and entered are some | of the best horses in the country. This | bowl, valued at $2,000, has been won | four times by Mrs. John Hay Whit- ney’s horses. Last year it was won by | Freddy Warburg's Meath, ridden by | Miss Anne Kenyon of the Old Do- minion Hunt. | The Warrenton Hunt will close its season on March 13, when it will hold its fourth annual point-to-point races. Amory 8. Carhart, M. F. H, and Mrs. Carhart, who have been on a trip to Nassau and Florida, will be back home by then, and. as always, this will be a gala day in Warrenton. Freddy Prince revived the old custom of an old- fashioned point-to-point in Warrenton four years ago, and many of the other hunts have followed suit. Certainly | there is no more interesting kind of a sporting event. Years ago it was the most important Spring sporting event in Virginia. | ‘The Riding and Hunt Club will hold #ts annual hunter trials at Bradley Farm on April 10. Much interest is | being taken in this event in Maryland, Virginia and the District. ® X X x DULANY RANDOLPH, who re- ceived a severely fractured arm in an automobile accident in New York about a month ago, has been moved from a New York hospital to his home in Virginia, Grafton, near Upperville. He has a cast around his waist and a brace that holds his arm straight out, all of which looks most uncomfortable. Dulany will rest at home for a week and will then go to Emergency Hospital in Washington for treatments to his elbow, which was badly crushed. His friends are | glad to get him home and are trying | to divert him a little from the suffer- ing he has been through. J. Armistead Carteg jr., and Jimmy | Wallace of Norfolk, V&, bowled in the Virginia State tournament at Rosslyn Saturday night. They are among the best bowlers in the State, having won many times, and are looking forward to the National Duckpin tournament, | to be held in Norfolk March 26. Car- | ter and Wallace came to Middleburg | for several days and stayed with Mrs. | Arthur Marshall at Crednal. Carter spent Sunday looking over his farm | near Middleburg, the old Redmond place opposite Mount Deflance. He was very interested to hear of the great fox hunt across his place last | Mot IN COLUMBIA’S “When You're in Love” Now Showing Locally | week, when two foxes were started on his land and, after giving the Middle- ‘ burg good runs, were denned on the | place near where they were jumped. | Mrs. Harry McComb Bangs of New | York is visiting in Middleburg this | week, having stopped off on her way | up from Jupiters Island, Fla., where | she has been sfaying with Mr. and Mrs. Roland Stebbins for several weeks. | Jupiters Island is one of the most | beautiful resorts in Florida. Among | the Virginians who have homes there, | where they spend the Winters, are Dr. and Mrs. Blair Spencer of Glou- cester County, and Maj. and Mrs. Carl Clarkson of Haymarket. David N. Rust of Leesburg is in Cali- fornia, where he went in time to see the Santa Anita Handicap last Satur- day. Time Supply, by Time Maker, owned by Mr. Rust, came in fifth in the big race. Time Supply was foaled on Mr. Rust’s estate and sold by him asayearling. Time Supply is a grand- son of The Porter, and the winner of the Santa Anita Handicap, Rosemont, owned by William du Pont, is by The Porter. Both Time Supply and Rose- ment were bred by Edward B. McLean. Their dams were owned by him and kept at Belmont, near Leesburg, when the place was owned by him. All Virginians took great pride in 1920 [ A Spring Arrival!
