ROCKVILLE, Md., March 5— Twelve indictments, ranging from housebreaking to murder, were re- turned against four Montgomery youths and a companion by a special | grand jury in Circuit Court here today. The first indictment charged Law- rence Gingell, Kensington; William B. , Four Corners, and War Joseph Kirby, Scranton, Pa., with the murder of Eilwood Matthews, 67-year- old Four Corners farmer, on November 21, 1936, near Burnt Mills. Gingell was brought here from Charleston, W. Va,, to testity for the Btate. He was arrested there with Kirby in connection with a hold-up and was being held also for the murder former Washington, D. C.; police su- perintendent. ° “I definitely was not drunk,” she said as she awaited' jury trial, March 11, to “clear myself.” “I recovered only recently from an illness and, in my weakened condition, must have fallen asleep after we parked the car to admire the view.” The young society matron, an of- ficial police report said, was found asleep in an automobile in Hollywood yesterday. Her companion, James J. Madden, pleaded guilty to drunken- ness and asked probation. Miss Glassford’s father was in charge of Washington police at the time of the bonus march disorders during the Hoover administration. Asserting her innocence, Miss Glass- ford declared, “Ours is a proud name and no member of the family ever has disgraced it. Therefore, I am de- manding an opportunity to clear my- 1| i sel She said she attended the horse races at Santa Anita with Madden, her former employer, and together they had “a couple of highballs.” She was freed under $500 bond.
