wxLP AN _ PAINTERS ASK RIGHT TO ROYALTIES ON WORKS Attack Reproductions, Claiming Loss of Revenue Protected for Writers and Musicians. By the Assoclated Press. NEW YORK, December 14. — A group of American painters, headed by John Sloan, president of the So- . ciety of Independent Artists, issued an appeal yesterday for recognition of royalty rights similar to those enjoyed by writers and musicians. They asserted that reproduction of works of art for use in the home or elsewhere is approaching a stage al- ready attained in the fields of writing and music and that the artist should benefit from the distribution of his work instead of having possible profits accrue to the person or institution which have possession of the original work. Institutions which own or buy works of living artists were called upon to recognize this right. In addition to Sloan, the proclama- tion was signed by Alexander Brook, William _Gropper, Alfred Stieglitz, George O'Keeffe, John Marin, Mars- den Hartley and Arthur Dove. “ HELP MEN.
