NEW YORK, December 14.—Opera- tions in the steel industry for the current week advanced 2.6 points to 79.2 per cent of capacity, a peak since Pebtu.lry 1930, and compared with A month ago operations averaged 74.1 per cent of capacity, while a year 40 the rate was 54.6 per cent. In the background of the rise in output, experts said, is advance buy- ing of steel by the motor industry and demand from railroads. Continued strength in scrap ateel prices was cited as a symptom of the industry’s robust condition. Some of the steel buying is said to have come from those anxious to anticipate higher | prices after January 1. CHICAGO PRODUCE. SHICAGO.
