NEW YORK, December 11.—Ad- vancing tendencies marked a consid- erable section of the bond list today. Rails had a number of gains rang- ing from fractions to around a point. Hiram Walker 4!5s, International Tel- ephone 5s, Allis Chalmers 4s and Studebaker 6s were bought at higher levels. Central Foundry 6s, a con- wvertible, pushed up 18 in brisk deal- ings. United States Governments had an improved tone in spite of some uneven- ness in price movements. Most of the Treasurys were up 1-32 to 4-32 of a point. A few were down 1-32 to 5-32. Hibbs, founder and senior partner in the firm bearing his name and dean of the Washington brokerage fraternity, celebrated his 72d birth- day anniversary today. He re- mained at his Virginia estate at Leesburg, but was remembered by many Washing- ton friends, who telephoned or tel- egraphed best wishes, “Billy” Hibbs was an outstand- ing figure in the financial district i:n lthe Capital for alf a century. W. B. Hb During that long period he knew personally many of the Nation's leading financiers, as well as high Government officials, including a long list of Presidents. His financial advice was widely sought and his friendship greatly prized. Born in Gordonsville, Va., he came to Washington when a young man and soon entered the brokerage busi- ness, eventually founding the New York Stock Exchange house of W. B. Hibbs & Co. The venture proved most successful. Later he made W. W. Spaid a partner, and upon practically retiring from active work a few years ago added Karl W. Corby and T. Thil- man Hendrick to the partnership. Mr. Hibbs was president of the years and one of the most active traders. The exchange today sent him a very large basket of flowers, many of the members adding personal con- gratulatory notes. \ Lead Is Boosled To $2 a Ton, or Peak Since 1930 BY the Associated Press.
