VANDENBERG LSES NEW TEGHNLE Expects Use of Recordings to Become Practice in " Campaigns. By the Assoclated Press. WILMINGTON, Del, October 21.— Senator Arthur H. Vandenberg, Re- publican, of Michigan, assailing cri ics of his interrupted radio “debate with the recorded voice of President | Roosevelt, asserted last night he would continue his attacks on the Demo- cratic administration ‘“regardless of | any efforts to restrain or to inter- fere with a presentation of what I be- lieve to be the facts.” The Michigan Senator told a Re-| publican rally in the Wilmington playhouse that his Chicago radio ad- dress last Saturday, which was inter- spersed with recordings of speeches made by President Roosevelt in 1932 | and 1933, was “a new technique” | which he expected to “become prac- | tice in years to come.” Vandenberg said the technique in- volved in the Chicago address, which was cut off the Eastern division of the Columbia Broadcasting System chain, “may involve a deadly paral- | lel—but the parallel is scr\xpulousl)" fair.” Reassured Before Address. If the Chicago speech was shock- ing to anybody. he said, “the shock must have resulted from the dramatic emphasis thus put upon the enormous gap between promise and perform- ance.” The Senator said he had been | *“competently advised” before the Chicago address that it would violate | no radio rules against the use of voice transcriptions and declared the larger question involved - “whether there should be a rule in free America which could be construed against the faithful presentation of the first- hand truth to the American people.” “I can understand the nervous per- | turbation of a radio station—which must answer for its life to Washing- ton bureaucracy every six months,” he said. “But I cannot understand a radio commissioner in Washington who hastens to condemn my broadcast— without ever having heard it—while at the same time his commission orders all radio stations to carry the voice of the Communist candidate for THE EVENING STAR, 'WASHINGTON The Beautiful New Boudoir Bottle D.
