Srectal Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, July 13.—While some slackening of the rapid progress that has been made since 1931 in the pro- duction and distribution of farm equip- | ment may result from the spread of | the drought in grain-raising States, where ylelds may be reduced to 75 or 50 per cent of normal, 1936 totals in all divisions of the trade are expected to make the best showing since 1930. For the first five months of the cur- rent year production ran ahead of the 1935 figures by 40 to ,0 per cent, while sales ranged 20 to 50 per cent higher, with the trend more strongly toward modern power equipment. As much of the loss in crop yields will be counterbalanced by the rise in prices of farm products, gross farm income for 1936 is expected to make its fourth successive annual advance by going up to $9,327,000,000, which would make a gain of 81.4 per cent since 1932, when it had dropped to! $5,142,000,000 a 23-year low. Follow- | ing an increase of 84.7 per cent in 1935, when the value of farm equip- | | ment production rose to $331,998,066 from $179,736,000 in 1934. orders al- | ready booked by manufacturers indi- | cate a 40 per cent improvement for | 1936. While earnings statements have | been the most favorable in three years, not all companies have succeeded in showing profits. Collections have im- proved, but the cash position of many manufacturers has been weakened by | the heavier overhead which the en- larged output has entailed. The rap- idly increasing ratio of cash sales has | been attributed to better credit risks, These were some of the major de- velopments revealed by a survey of the | farm equipment trade, which has Just | ‘;nen completed by Dun & Bradstreet, nc.
