A—12 ONEHAY TRAFF TOBERNATTAN .New Rule Affects Six Major Highways Into City. Other Changes. Use of six of the major highways of the District as one-way traffic arteries will begin at 7 am.,, instead of 8 am,, under an amendment to the traffic | regulations approved by the Commis- sioners on recommendation by Traffic Director William A. Van Duzer. f The Commissioners also have adopt- | ed a ban on “U” turns at any intersec- | tion controlled by traffic lights or by a police officer, on a finding by Van | Duzer that this practice creates traffic | hazards. 1 At the same time the Commissioners | have ordered revision or extension of parking restrictions on a score of streets and have officially designated ;several others as one-way thorough- fares. All these changes are effective after 10 days of legal notice. During ! the interim hundreds of signs must be changed. The new period for use of the six major one-way streets during the morning rush hours will be from 7 to 9:30 am. The evening rush hour one- ‘way provisions remain unchanged. The six highways affected are: Sixth street, | from Florida to Indiana avenues; | “Thirteenth street, from Kansas avenue | to Logan Circle; Twenty-second street, | from Massachusetts o Virginia ave- | nues; Florida avenue, from R street io | Massachusetts avenue; Twentieth | street, from Massachusetts avenue to N street, and N street, from Twentieth | to Eighteenth street. 50 Per Cent Use Road Early. ‘Van Duzer found that about 50 per cent of the normal rush-hour traffic 13- using these streets between 7 and 8 am. and that between 73 and 91 per | eent of the traffic there between these hours is southbound. !
