Lumber Co. and former director of the Fed- eral-American Bank and the Ross- lyn Steel & Cement Co.. died yes- | terday at his home, 3848 Harrison street. Born in Port Deposit, Md.. Mr. Gal- liher came to Washington in 1865, receiving his education in the public schools here. In 1889 he and his brother, the late W. T. Engleberg W. Kerper, catcher for the old Baltimore Orioles in the 80s and one of the founders of the Interchurch Base Ball League here, died Tuesday at his home, 1236 - E street, from a heart attack. He numbered among his close friends nearly every major league player of a generation ago, and also was known to many of the later stars. Mr. Kerper was a member of the board of the Ninth Street Christian Church. He organized and managed the church’s base ball team. Willilam Stanley resigned as assist- ant to the Attorney General to return to the private practice of law in Wash- ington and was replaced by Harold M. Stephens, who soon stepped out to become a Circuit Court judge in the District of Columbia. Brian McMahon, young Connecticut attorney, has been acting as assistant to the Attorney General since Stephens resigned. Only 726 automobjles were stolen in London in the last year. Postmaster General Farley has post- poned the first trans-Pacific airmail flight from San Francisco to Manila from November 8 until November 22. Saying he had received requests for the postponement from the Pan- American Airways Co., the route con- tractors, Farley added that a large number of stamp collectors and also | State and city officials in Californis had suggested a delay. The stamp collectors contended that the original date did not allow sufficient time for the preparation of first-flight covers in order to have them reach the postmaster at San Francisco.
