FORESTVILLE, Md., September 12. ~—Samuel Gardner Coale, 56, a deputy collector of internal revenue in Wash- ington for the past 10 years and one of Prince Georges Countys most | prominent Republicans, died at his home here early today. He had been in ill health for eight months with a heart ailment. For 18 years Mr. Coale was chair- man of the Republican State Central Committee of Prince Georges County, but was not a member of the commit- tee at the time of his death. He served as deputy commissioner of motor ve- hicles for Maryland under Gov. Golds- borough and conducted an automobile i business at Upper Marlboro for the past 20 years. One of his brothers, Guy Coale, is postmaster at Upper Marlboro. Dr. Thomas E. Latinfer, who suc- ceeded Mr. Coale as chairman of the County Central Commfttee last year, said his death not only was a deep | | personal loss to hundreds of county | residents, but also left the Republican party without one of its “most able and capable advisers.” Born near Upper Marlboro, Mr. Coale was a& life-long resident of Prince Georges County. His wife, Mrs, | Sarah Josephine Coale, died exactly two months ago, on July 12, and the | shock of her passing is believed to have hastened his death. Washington had five new cases for the week ending September 7, and five additional cases have been reported | 80 far this week.
