The United States Government list | was uniformly lower, although declines were moderate and dealings light. Rails accounted for numerous gains in the early trading, but ground was yielded from top levels in many cases. There were moderate closing gains for Youngstown Sheet & Tube 5s, Loews, Inc.; American Water Works 6s, Columbia Gas & Electric 5s, Balti- more & Ohio 6s, Delaware & Hudson | 4s, New York Central Consolidated 4s, New Haven 6s and Northern Pacific 6s. NORMAL Department of Agriculture Report for Year Shows 11,489,000 Bales. By the Associated Press. ‘The Department of Agriculture said today & cotton crop this year of 11,-| 489,000 bales of 500 pounds gross; weight was indicated by September 1 conditions. A month ago a crop of 11,798,000 bales was indicated. Last year's pro- duction was 9,636,559 bales and tbe 1933 crop totaled 13,047,262 bales. Ginnings of this year’s crop to Sep- tember 1 was reported by the Census Bureau as 1,132,739 running bales, counting round as half bales. To that date last year ginnings were 1,402,845, and two years ago, 1,396,- 139 bales. 64.5 Per Cent of Normal. ‘The condition cf the crop Septem- ber 1 was 645 per cent of normal, | compared with 73.6 a month ago, 53.8 | a year ago, and 59.2, the 1924-1933 | average. | Indicated yield per acre is 192 | pounds, compared with 198.3 a month | "2 |ago, 170.9 a year ago. and 177.1, the 1924-1933 average. Comparison of Sales. Sales to dealers in the United States were 103,098 units in August, com- pared with 139,021 in July and 87,429 in August, 1934. Total sales to dealers in the United States and Canada, plus overseas shipments amounted to 124,680 units, against 167,790 in July, and 109, 215 | in August of last year.
