CATHEDRAL PLANS LABOR DAY TALKS Canon Wolven and Rev. Mr. Tucker to Be Heard Tomorrow. Sermons appropriate to the spiritual significance of Labor day observance this year will be delivered at Washing- ton Cathedral, on Mount St. Alban, to- morrow. Canon Raymond L. Wolven, chaplain to the Bishop of Washington, will be the preacher at the celebration of the holy communion in the Beth- lehem Chapel at 11 o'clock, and Rev. P. Bland Tucker, rector of St. John's Church, Georgetown, will deliver the sermon at the people’s open-air even- song service at the Peace Cross at ¢ o'clock. Both Canon Wolven and the Rev. Mr. Tucker have given much study to the work of the department of social welfare in the Diocese of Washington. Services tomorrow will begin with telebration of the holy communion In the Bethlehem Chapel at 7:30 a.m. Group pilgrimages will be held fol- lowing the 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. services. Prayers for the peaceful outcome of the negotiations between Italy and Ethiopia are being offered at all services in the Cathedral by order of Bishop James E. Freeman, who is expected back in Washington on Sep- tember 13. On his return journey from his Summer home in Maine he will preach in the chapel at West Point, N. Y., on September 8. Robert G. Barrow, newly appointed organist and choirmaster at the Ca- thedral, has returned from a year's study abroad and will play his first service in the Bethlehem Chapel the morning of September 8. He will begin rehearsals with the Cathedral Choir of men and boys early next week. Mr. Barrow is & native of ‘Washington, a graduate of St. Albans, the National Cathedral School for Boys, and studied both voice and organ under the late Edgar Priest. He received the degrees of bachelor of music and master of music from Yale University before going abroad under the Ditson Fellowship for Foreign Study. The officers and members of the California State Society in the Dis- trict of Columbia will meet in the Bethlehem Chapel September 8, at 3 o'clock, to inspect the California State flag, which they presented to the Cathedral, and to attend the pilgrimage conducted by Edwin N. Lewis, editor of the Cathedral Age. At the conclusion of the pilgrimage they will attend evensong service at the Peace Cross, e YOUTH SESSION BEGUN AT TAKOMA PARK Elder MacNeil, President of Po- tomac Conference, Makes Opening Address. A youths’ conference is being held at Columbia Hall, Washington Mis- sionary College, Seventh-Day Ad- ventists, in Takoma Park. The session opened last night when Elder J. W. MacNeil, president of the Potomac Conference, made the opening address. The sermon this morning was preached by Elder D. A. Ochs. There will be general discussions throughout the day.
