A-12 470,204 ACCOUNTS INSURED IN'D. G 463,878 of Total Covered Completely by Federal Deposits System. BY EDWARD C. STONE. Washington's 22 banks carried an | aggrezate of 470.204 insured accounts, of which 463.878 were wholly insured and 6,326 partially insured. on October 1, 1934, Chairman Leo T. Crowley of | the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. | announced today in his annual report to Congress. ‘The nine national banks had 178,784 | fully insured accounts and 3,541 par- | tially insured accounts, further details fiom the report reveal. while two State banks which are members of the Fed- eral Reserve System had 113.043 full; protected accounts and 1.520 partly insured accouats. The 11 banks which are not members of the Federal Re- serve System carried a total of 172,051 fully insured accounts and 1.265 par- tially protected. The number of accounts which are fully protected makes a surprisingly high percentaze and no doubt is one | of the chief reasons for the general | restoration of confidence in Washing- | ton’s banking institutions. In addi- | tion to the number of depositors now enjoying such wide protection, Chair- man Crowley’s report includes the amount of deposits insured. As has been known for a long time, the small depositors in all the banks are com- pletely protected by insurance. On the da‘e selected for the report | the Capital's 22 banks had total de- | posits of $251.916.000. Of ‘this amount a total of $135.147.000 was insured by | the Federal corporation. A break- | down of this total shows deposits amounting to £103.517.000 in fully in- | sured accounts. $31.630.000 deposits were in partially insured accounts. while $116.769.000 came outside of the tnsured accounts The nine national banks reported $146.246,000 in deposits, divided into 4 $49.772,000 fully insured. $17.705.000 | in partially insured accounts and | £79.140.000 outside the insured zone. Percentages Reveal Safety, ' The State bank members of the Federal Reserve System had deposits | of $59.009.000. with $25.985.000 fully | insured. $7.600.000 in partly insured | Accounts and $25.424.000 uninsured | deposits in partially insured accounts. | At the same time the 11 banks not | members of the Federal Reserve Sys- | tem carried a total of $46.661.000 in | deposits, with §27.759.000 fully insured. $6.325.000 in partially insured ac- counts and $125377.000 in uninsured deposits in partly insured accounts. The safety of depositors and de- posits in the Washington banks is most clearly pictured in the percent- | age summary in the Crowley report. In the Capital 98.7.per cent of all ac- counts were fully insured on the date on which the report was based. Na- tional banks reported 93.1 per cent of their accounts as fully protected: State bank members of the Federal Reserve reported 98.7 per cent of their ac- counts as fully insured. while the banks not members of the Federa Reserve announced that 99.3 per cent of their accounts were insured. Turning to the percentage of de- posits insured. Chairman Crowley re- ports 53.6 per cent for all local banks, 46.1 per cent for the national banks, | 569 per cent for the State bank | members of the Federal Reserve and | 73 per cent for the banks which do not belong to the Federal Reserve. The report includes similar figures for all the other banks in the United States and the head of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. points with Justifiable pride to the results of the first vear's operations. Only nine in- sured banks were placed in receiver- | ship during the year. with insured deposits of $937.000. All but 14 of the | 15,518 depositors in these banks were fully protected. the report sa: ek ke Bank President in Hospital. Rolfe E.
