BY JOHN A. CRONE. Special Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, August 6.—Wheat is a main conversational topic here these days as business and financial leaders scan black rust and weather reports from American and Canadian grain belts. With the corsensus of private re- ports pointing to a wheat crop of 600,000,000 bushels as of August 1, or 130,000,000 bushels below the estimate made by the Department of Agricul- ture July 1, the Federal crop report to be made public within a few days is eagerly awaited. Black rust and heat within the last month have turned what promised to be a bumper wheat crop into one rela- dively small—probably the smallest since 1904, if the two preceding sub- normal yields be excepted—and of poor quality, A year ago today in one of the wildest grain trading sessions in years Al |As0 G & E G & E 5las "3R8 A!so G k E 5'as | Asz0 Rayon 5s | Atias Ply 5izs * Bald 1o fs % wu Baldn Lo s 38 xw | Bel Tel Can s A 55 Brmngm El 413s ' Brmham Gas 5 e le Cnt St P & Chi Pngu T Blas Cin St R 5'zs A the Ile de France, bringing an opti- mistic view on the copper situation abroad. “In England they do not look for' | any diminution in demand for copper SRR for the remainder of the year' said. The rocketing of | prices to the highest levels since July, | 1933, was justified because the Crop Reporting Board on August 10, 1934. put wheat production around 490,960,- «| 000 bushels, or only 55 per cent of the 1027-1931 average. The Government crop report of July 11,1935, put wheat at 731,045,000 bush- els, as against 496,469,000 a year ago. Subsequent events in both cases greatly lowered estimates. Thus far this year wheat has been rather slow in moving to market, both here and in Canada. Our Winter wheat harvest moved to market at the | slowest rate in 16 years. Its growth had been retarded by duststorms and drought, which were partially relieved by late Spring rains. Actual heat and black rust damage will not be known for nearly a week, as wheat plants in some regions have not yet finished they growth. mewspaper Alliance, Tenn Pub Ser Texas Elect FOREAGN BONDS. las Tima Banteh Ton n Mtg | Europ Mtg > Ger Con Mun Ger Con Mun 7 Gua WR R 6 Ital Su Pow 6s Pled Elec 38 A e J 6ias Ruhr 'G_C 6ias A Russia 5las cifs Russian 6125 *19 “mat_ Stinnes 4s 38 stp_ Stinnes 45 36 sip Terni 8o 6'as A ww—With warrant xw—Without warrants, n—New. wi—When {ssued st_(stp)—Stamped fNegotiability impaired by maturity.
