C, AUGUST 4, 1935—PART ONE SIX DIE, TRIO HUR INCROSSING CRASH Truck Smashes Into Train|}; Despite Frantic Effort of Driver. By the Associated Press. CAMDEN, S. C, August 3.—Six persons were killed end thres injured today when a farmer's truck careened into s Seaboard Alr Line train at a crossing near here and spilled some of its occupants beneath the train wheels, The deadwere identified at & local undertaking establishment as: Murdock Baker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Baker and driver of the truck; J. V. Baker, jr.; Mrs. Dan Baker, Mrs. Steve Baker, Sam Baker, and Gaylord Jordan. Hospital attendants said three in- Jjured persons brought there were Dan. Baker, owner of the truck: Herbert Jordan and Steve Baker. Little hope was held for their recovery. One person on the train, which was bound for Columbia, was reported to have been injured. Witnesses said the light truck, bear- ing nine residents of farms near here, approached the crossing simultane- ously with a southbound Seaboard passenger train. The driver swerved to the right when a collision at right angles threatened, but the truck struck the third car of the train and turned over. ‘The first person to reach the wreck- age described it as a twisted mass of metal and wood with human arms and legs protruding at all angles. Additional ambulances, one of them equipped with an operating table, were summoned from Columbia to supple- ment the single ambulance in service here at the time, New Airline Planned.
