Associated Press Pinancial Writer. BY RADER WINGET, NEW YORK, July 29.—An increase of near’y 12 per cent in corporation profits is indicated in reports for the first half of this year, compared with the same period of 1934. The rate of gain Is larger for the entire six months against last year than the indicated increase shown by selected corporations during the sec- ond quarter of this year compared with the first three months. The 12 per cent advance was made by 170 companies in a wigely diversi- fled classification of organizations which reported profis and losses for the half year durinz the last two weeks. That result has been shown in reports of selected firms whose previous reports are avail- able. NEW YORK, July 29.—A general expansion in steel demand now ap- pears to be under way, few con- suming industries failing to show some measure of improvement, states the magazine Steel. “Users are anticipating require- ments for larger tonnages and fur- ther ahead. Steelmakers themselves are increasing stocks of raw steel. “Due principally to these factors, steel ingot production last week rose 2 points to 45 per cent, highest since the last week in April, notwithstand- | ing that Ford plants, as well as many automobile partsmakers and other manufacturers shut down or pre- pared to suspend for vacations and midyear inventories. “Steelmakers are convinced that the low point in steel production for the year has been passed and that the industry shortly will overtake the ate of 54!, per cent at which it was operating early in February. “Reflecting the buoyant feeling in the market, scrap prices last week | advanced again, 50 cents to $1 a jton. You’re Missing Something if you haven’t tried ETHOLINE at the New Low Price THOUSANDS of motorists have switched to Betholine within 30 days. Sales have jumped nearly 50% since the premium was reduced. Read in the column at the right how Betholine saves you money. Then resolve to test Betholine for one month. Prove to yourself that it is the finest motor fuel made. Learn why thousands of motorists have bought millions of gallons of Betho- line in the past at 3¢ to 5¢ premium. OWEST PREMIUM IN HISTORY Now Only 2 Cents More Than Regular Gasolines SAME HIGHEST QUALITY Here’'s why BETHOLINE saves you money I Greater Mileage Every gallon of Betholine contains many thou- sands more heat units than a gallon of regular gasoline. And more heat units means more power—more miles. This feature—more miles per gallon—takes care of the slight extra cost. 2 No Carbon Because Betholine contains large quantities of Benzol, carbon is practically eliminated. In addition to burning clean, Benzol also dissolves ‘earbon that might be formed by the gaseline in Betholine. You save money on carbon cleaning. 3 Less Evaporation Summer heat causes a certain amount of the fuel in your tank to evaporate. Betholine, oven though it is more volatile than regular gasolines, has a much lower vapor pressure. And vapor pressure largely controls the rate of evapora- tien. This money-saving feature is particuiarly important in hot summer months. For economy use A Sherwood Product 1935, was estimated at abo! $259,000, equal to 56 cents per ou | standing common share.
