FI BONDS ALSO JOIN BROAD ADVANCE Sharp Upturn in Carrier Is- sues Spurs Market in Late Dealings. By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, July 29.—The bond market moved ahead today under the momentum of a sharp upturn in rail- Toad issues in the late trading. * Carriers turning in the best per- formance included Atlantic Coast Line 4l5s, Baltimore & Ohio 6s, Nickel "Plate 5%s and Ontario & Western 4s, in which gains ranged from 1 to 2% points. Various industrial and utility bonds improved fractionally and volume in most leading groups rose substantially over that of Friday due to increased trading interest in the last half of thé session. U. S. Governments were the one *major group which failed to show an expanded turnover. Dealings fell be- low the small volume of Friday and at the close prices were 3-325 of a point higher to 3-32s lower. Chicago Grain By the Associated Press. CHICAGO, July 29.—Tumbles of wheat values became the rule late today after a series of nervous wide fluctuations. Offerings of wheat were largely in the nature of profit-taking for recent buyers, and met with a lack of sus- tained general speculative buying. Much notice was taken of statements that the delayed movement of domes- tic Winter wheat this year may mean a8 joint simultaneous movement of Spring and Winter wheat later on, an | ‘unusual situation. NEW YORK, July 29.—The $45.- 000,000 Goodrich Rubber Co. ‘mort gage was approved by & narrow mar- gin at the reconvened meeting of stockholders today. Seventy-five and three-tenths per cent of the common stock was voted Intlvoroluwpmpo.dmd‘lnpu cent of the preferred stock. A three-quarters favorable vote of each class was required. The narrow margin by which the Goodrich management scored its vic- tory in the proxy battle with the Cleveland investment banking firm of Otis & Co., which had opposed the financing proposal, left open the pos- sibility of further legal action to block the plan. C. E. Bodurtha, member of the Cleveland law firm of Tolles, Hogsett & Ginn, representing Otis & Co., for- mally renewed his client’s protest against the creation of the mortgage and reserved the right to push his challenge of certain proxies voted in | favor of the proposal. Bodurtha estimated that he had challenged 2,500 proxies representing approximately 100,000 shares of stock. Questioned following the meeting, he said that while the majority of the challenges might not be sustained, only 2,800 additional shares of common would have been necessary to defeat | the proposal.
