Stationery Sales Rise. An increase of 3.19 per cent in sta- | tionary sales in this district, by 22 firms reporting from Pennsylvania, Virginia, New Jersey, the District o(; Columbia and Maryland, is shown in a survey made by the research de-I partment of the National Stationers'| Association for the month of June,! 1035, as compared with June, 1934. For the first six months of 1935 the | average increase here in the District was 4.36 per cent. ! “Prospects for the Fall look much brighter than they did some time | ago,” says Charles P. Garvin, general manager of the department. { Financing Increases. | The way is being opened for new | ecapital financing, ip the opinion of | the Federal Securities and Exchange Commission, based on a registration of $665,000,000 in new securities for the first half of 1935. | Most of the securities registered, according to the Associated Press, | were for refunding operations—that is the proceeds were earmarked for retiring other securities. ~However, | the commission listed two ways in | which this “wave of refunding” might | help start the flow of capital for new industrial and commercial under- takings. “The first is by clearing up the| high coupon, callable bonds that are still outstanding,” the commission | said. “Only after these high-yield securities have been removed from | the investment field and other in-| debtedness bearing high interest rates | eliminated, is it usually possible to successfully undertake riew financing at low enough interest 1ates to make new capital expenditures desirable and | profitable. | Huge Savings Cited. | “Again, the savings to companies Am European Sec ..
