B-12 ¢ FOUR DIE IN CRASH OF RENTED PLANE Pilot and Three Chicago Men Plunge to Death on Pleasure Cruise. By the Associated Press. MILWAUKEE, July 27.—Four men on a pleasure cruise around Lake Michigan were killed today when their airplane crashed from an altitude of 200 feet as the pilot sent it into a flat turn in attempting to land. ‘The dead: Pilot Robert M. Henschen, Winet- ka, 0L George T. Tengberg, Chlcago. port at a height of about 1,800 feet. The pilot circled the field once, then started down. Witnesses said that ap- parently because of a lack of speed the ship nosed down when the turn was tried. It plunged earthward, burying its nose deep in the soil of a nearby hayfield. All cccupants were dead when air- port attendants reached the scene. The party rented the ship from the North Suburban Flying Corp. Officials of the Curtiss-Reynolds Airport said Henschen was a licensed pilo; and was regarded as a skilled airman, He and Tengberg were em- ployes of the Commonweaith Edison Co. of Chicago. Henschen and Ennis were roommates when they attended Harvard University. Ex-Russian General Dies. CONGIDERS HEAVY WHEAT CUT Decision Is Held Up Until Reports Are Received on Rust Damage. By the Associated Press. The Farm Adjustment Administra- tion was reported yesterday to be con- sidering’ slashing 1936 t acreage from 15 to 18 per cent below the “base” acreage. ‘The final decision hinged on the amount of black rust damage. Offi- clals said that if the damage proves negligible the acreage reduction may be as much as 20 per cent. But Chi- cago yesterday reported the rust|’ spreading. by contract signers in the 1930-32 period—would compare with a 15 per cent cut in 1934 and 10 per cent this year. Announcement of the reduction to be required probably will be made be- fore Saturday. Officials had planned to determine the reduction earlier, but were said to have been delayed because of the rust spread. Private estimates have indicated the rust may cause a reduction in the 1935 crop of from 20,000,000 to 50,- 000,000 bushels. Officials also planned announcement of terms of the new four-year wheat adjustment contracts this week, prob- I:bly before the acreage reduction is | determined. The contracts will pio- vide a maximum possible reduction of 25 per cent. The reduction is de- termined by Secretary of Agriculture ‘Wallace. ‘The July 1 crop report estimated total wheat production this year at 731,000,000 bushels. The carry-over on July 1 was 155,000,000 bushels, 5,000 Police Added. “HUMAN CANNONBALL” DEATH IS INVESTIGATED By the Associated Press. OCEAN PARK, Calif., July 27.—An inquest next Tuesday was ordered to- day for Willlam C. Miller, 22, of News tonville, Mass.,, and New York, who was hurled more than 125 feet to death in the ocean in his first attempt o be a “human cannonball.” His body was recovered today fl- under a pier, near the point whepe he was propelled from an amusement park “cannon” by compressed air yes- terday. Police ordered the cannonball pere formances suspended. They said they had learned Miller, who was in Cali- fornia on a vacation, had been at- tending Tufts College and had planned to enroll this Fall in Duke University. Capt. CUff Gregg, manager of the act, said Miller had implored him for an opportunity to be shot out of the cannon.
