Much interest is being shown in financial circles here in the method to be used soon by the Baltimore National Bank, at Baltimore, trustee, | in retiring abcut $325,000 worth of | first 5 per cen. bonds of the Anacostia | & Potomac Rier Railroad. Cash was paid over to this bank as trustee on July 1 for retiring a block of thesc securities, and it was reliably reported here today that a plan is now being developed for tenders to be announced to bond holders very soon. The bank was said here to be wait- ing for official word from the Capital Transit Co. in the matter. Yester- day was the regular meeting day for the transit bcard and it was consid- ered likely thac some kind of com- munication may have gone to the bank. First 5s Studied. On account of the lower price of the first 5s. it was believed here that the retirements would come out of this issue, instead of the guaranteed 5s, which now are considerably above | par. Four of these $1.000 first 5s sold to- day in trading on the Washington Stock Exchange at 93, the first trans- action in this issue for some time. They closed at 93 bid and 94 asked. fThe first 5s issue is outstanding in the sum of $2.451,000. maturity date of 1949. The guaranteed 5s of the;| Anacostia outstanding in the sum of | £455,000, due 1949, have been bid at 1061=. Gas Light Net Gains. The Acacia Mutual Life Insurance | Co. made record progress during the | first six months of this year, accord- | ing to reports submitted to the Board of Directors by William Montgomery, president. Assets of Acacia increased to more than $58,000,000, a peak total and a gain of more than $2,000,000 in| the first half of 1935. The insurance in force now stands at more than $353,000,000. | A 22 per cent increase in the net gain over the first six months of last year also was reported by President Montgomery, and the six-month in- come of approximately $7,000,000 was shown to be the greatest for any corresponding period in Acacia’s an- nals. During the same period ap- proximattely $3,250,000 was paid to| policyholders and beneficiaries. | Indicative of improving economic | conditions generally, and the effec- tiveness of Acacia’s traditional em- phasis on conservation, is the fact that during the first half of 1935 a 14 per cent improvement was estab- | lished in the company's conservation record. | Cites Examiners’ Reports. ‘ During the course of the meeting President Montgomery cited to the directors the highly favorable report made by the insurance examiner: of the District of Columbia, Indiuna, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Virginia, who recently completed the regular triennial examination of Acacia. Pres- ident Montgomery quoted the follow- ing conclusions of the examiners: “As a result of this examination the company was found to be in an excellent financial condition, with the investments well diversified. “The company is economically and | efficiently managed. The reserves are ample to meet all statutory require- ments and to provide against un-| foreseen contingencies as a result of fluctuation of securities. “A consistent growth is being made in business and assets under the able and conservative management which has remained unchanged for many | years.” | The board adopted unanimously a resolution expressive of the deep sense of loss felt by the company in the recent death of Vice President J. P. Yort, who had been associated with Acacia for more than 18 years. The appointment of Bayne Marbury, well known in local financial circles, to the post of assistant treasurer was announced. Treasury Bills Offered. Secretary of the Treasury Mor-| genthau has put on the market an- other offering of 273-day bills to be sold on a discount basis to the highest bidders next Monday in the sum o{' about $50,000,000. Much interest is shown here in me favorable report of International | Business Machies Corp., showing that net earnings, including foreign | subsidiaries, for the six months of this year, were $3548,115 after de- ductions, equivalent to $4.94 a share, compared with $3,401,176, or $4.7¢ a ghare, for the corresponding 1934 pe- riod. The company has a plant here. 39 6215 T 331 11% 128 83, 149% 1% 204 1% 3005 160% 6% 61% 21% 20% 3% 70% 5784 29 65% 361 145 217% 54% 14% 96 33% 1™ 1278 5% 5% 25 32 10% 614 2% 35 4% Ry 20%, 561 24% " Abr & Strauss (11)- Acme Steel (12)._ 4% Advance Rumley . 6% Affiliated Pro (60c). 104% Air Reduction (13). % Air-Way Elec Appl. 154 Alaska Jun (160c) . % Alleg Corp (d) 21 Allegheny §tl (1) 125 Allied Chem (8) ... 3% Allied Stores 2 49 Allied Stores pf (5) 12 Allis Chalmers 14 Alpha Port Cmt (1) 214 Amal Leather - 48'; Amerada Corp (2) _. 41's Am Ag Ch Del (2) . 1315 Am Bank Note 43 Am Bk Note pf (3). 21 Am Brk Shoe (1) __ 110 Am Can (14) % 10 Am Car & Foundry . 25'3 Am Car & Fdry pf_. 8 Am Chain 66 Am Chicle (13) .- 22' Am Comcl Alcohol.. 6'3 Am Crystal Sugar . 57% Am Cryst S pf (a3). % Am Encaustic (d) .. 2% Am European See _ 2 Am & Foreign Pwr 12 Am & For Pw $6 pf. 14 Am & For Pw $7 pf. 37 Am & For Pw 2d pf 2% Am Hide & Leather 17 Am Hide& L pf 294 Am Home Pr (2.40) % Am Ice 415 Am International 9 Am Locomotive 32 Am Locomotive nf 181 Am Mch & Fy (80¢) 121 Am Metals 11 Am Power & Light R% Am Pw & Lt $5 pf 1014 Am Pw & Lt $6 pf _ : Am Radiator __ Am Rolling Mill=s Am Safetv Raz (5)_ Am Seatinz vie 20 Am Shipbldg (2) __ 31% Am Smelt & Ref 121 AmS&R 1% pf (1) 63 Am Snuff (13) - 12 Am Steel Foundry .. 3315 Am Stores (12) _____ 54 Am Sugar (2) 126'5 Am Sug pf (1) _ 18'3 Am Sum Tob (1) 9875 Am Tel & Tel (9) 721 Am Tobacco (5) 74% Am Tobacco B (5 4 129'% Am Tobacco pf (6)_ 100 215 Am Tvpe Fdrs (d)_.
