FINANCIAL. SECONDARY BONDS DECLINE FURTHER Low-Priced Rails Heavy. Prime Issues Steady. U. S. Group Mixed. NEW YORK, June 1.—The bond market reflected in some measure to- day the state of perplexity in financial quarters as to the status of N. R. A. Taking their cue from the heaviness of stocks, most of the second-grade bonds moved downward to the extent of fractions to a point. There were a few which suffered sharper losses because of scarcity of bids. Low- priced rails were uniformly heavy. Prime issues appeared to meet erough support to hold recent levels, and United States Governments showed some improvement of action 1n spite of a little irregularity. In the fcreign list French government bonds recently depressed. rebounded sharply. Loans carried down by the moder- ate selling movement included Amer- ican & Foreign Power 5s, Chile Cop- per 58, Erie 5s, Great Northern 4l.s, New York Central 5s, Postal Tele- graph 5s, Southern Pacific 4'25 and |, | Argentine 5% 62 Southern Railway 4s. Utility bonds were generally steady, and the general run of industrials also acted better than rails. Slightly higher prices were paid for Consoli- dated Gas 5':s, Goodyear 5s. Phillips Petroleum 5!4s and Shell Union Oil bs. In the Government section there was a better tone than has been evi- | dent during the past several days. Treasury 4'4s of 1952 were 1-32d higher at 116.7 and Home Owners’ Loan 4s were that much higher at | 3% s 1946-56. | Australia bs '55. By private wire direct to The Star.
