By the Associated Press. | NEW YORK, February 8.—One of | the most intensive crime round-ups carried on by police in recent years resulted today in the detention of ap- | proximately 400 persons. They were rounded up in pool | rooms, restaurants and on street cor- | I ners asthe police brought them inl { under the law which makes it a ' crime for men with criminal records to congregate in public places. So great was the rush that police headquarters was soon swamped and the prisoners were taken to precinct stations. The purpose of the round-up was not announced, but it was believed to be a demonstration of the ineffective- ness of section 722 of the State penal code under which it must be proved that the prisoners congregated for an FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 1935.
