ARGENTINA FOLS COUP IN PROVINCE Ousted Governor Restored. Reaction in National Politics Expected. By the Assoclated Press. LA PLATA, Argentina, February 8. —Gov. Federico de Hoz of the Prov- ince of Buenos Aires, whose resigna- tion was forced yesterday by armed | oppositionists, was restored to power | today through swift intervention of federal military authorities. ‘The plot, carried out by police Who | surrounded the palace armed with machine guns, was balked by Gen. Juan. Pistarini of the federal army. | Gen. Pistarini, rushed here by the; Argentine cabinet to restore order, | dislodged Vice Gov. Raul Diaz, who | took over the governor's office, and ordered the arrest of Tiberio Podesta, assistant chief of police, whom he named as the leader of the coup. In Buenos Aires the prospect was seen that the incidents might pro- duce repercussions in national poli- tics. The Conservatives, strongest | supporters of the federal government, | were said to be angry over the cab- | inet’s intervention in the provincial | disturbance. In retaliation, it was said, they might withdraw their support from the five important government finan= cial bills, including one to establish a central bank, which now are under consideration in the House of Repre- sentatives. The bills already have been passed in the Senate. Opponents of Gov. de Hoz's regime planned to meet today to study the situation and determine their future policies. STATUE SPONSORS MUST LANDSCAPE Government in Future Will Not| Beautify Grounds for Private Interests. A new policy, under which private | interests erecting memorials in Wash- | ington with the sanction of Congress | will be required to furnish proper landscaping, was laid down yesterday by C. Marshall Finnan, superintendent | of National Capital Parks. The newly constructed circle at Massachusetts and Nebraska avenues, on which the memorial to Gen. Arte- mas Ward, Revolutionary War hero, is being erected shortly by Harvard Uni versity, has been turned over to juris- diction of the parks office by the Dis- trict Commissioners. | In consultation with the Fine Arts | Commission and the National Capital | Park and Planning Commission, Finnan’s office is drawing up proposed plans for landscaping for the Ward Memorial, which will be turned over 1.9 the Harvard authorities for execu- ion. In the past, Finnan explained, the Government has granted permission for erection of statues to individuals on public ground, but the sponsors have lacked funds to complete the | landscaping. Consequently, this ex- pense was thrown on the shoulders of the Federal Government, a situation | that will now be prevented. —_— Marriage Licenses. Georse B, Pursis, 4. and Pear] P. Hollister said. “We will seek to give them a religious environment where they will not be thrown into contact with their former bad com- panions. We will seek, in short, to make good citizens out of young men who have made a bad start be- cause of bad judgment or necessity.” The “big brother” plan has been in effect for several years among | the juvenile delinquents, and the | TRADE NAMES HIT Commission Objects to Suggested Federal “Affiliation.” Complaints that the trade names suggest “affiliations with the Fed- eral Government when no such affil- iations exist” has been made by the Federal Trade Commission against the Army and Navy Trading Co. and the American Army and Navy Store of Washington, it was announced today.
