Special Dispatch to The Bta: NEW YORK, July 8—Heavy in the early trading, Curb Exchange stocks rallled in the second hour of toda session and closed irregularly higher. The goid shares occupied the center of the speculative stage with large blocks taken at advancing quotations and with some of the low-priced issues attalning new highs for the year or duplicating previous peaks. Electric Bond & Share, around 37 near the end, was off fractionally. Jones & Loughlin, around 53, was up more than 5 points. American Gas & Elec- tric was off almost a point. Cities Service was down only a small frac- tion. Standard Ofl of Indiana was up minutely. Demand for the gold stocks took in Newmont Mining, a holding company, had one of the largest gains, up more than 2 points in midsession. Gains of frac- tions to more than a point were scored by Pioneer Gold, Wright-Hargreaves Mining, Hollinger, Tech-Hughes, Pre- mier Gold and Lake Shore Mines. The olls, like the utilities, were unable to make much progress. International Petroleum continued in demand. { Pennroad Corporation, which made a new high earlier in the week, was active but showed an easier tendency. United Founders, in the investment trust list, was turned over in volume at 23}, its previous close. United Gas also was traded in volume, most of the time at fractional declines.
