3.2 BEER CONVICTION - APPEAL SUCCESSFUL Alexandria Man’s Case Dismissed by Jury Trying First of Three Cases. By a Staft Correspondent of The Star. ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 27—After being out eight minutes, a jury in Cor- poration Court today dismissed the first | of three appeal cases of local merchants arrested in raids by State Prohibition Officer Virgil Williams and local po- lice cn May 31 on charges of violating the State “one-half of 1 per cent” pro- hibition law with possession of 3.2 beer. The crowded court room applauded when the jury foreman announced the first case, which was that of Tcny Har- ris, proprietor of a cafe at 1011 street, had been dismissed. He h: ‘been charged with possession of 4! bot- tles of 3.2 beer. { Harris, along with Benjamin Apter and John Gadonas, local mechant, had been fined $50 and $20.50 costs each by Judge William S. Snow in Po- lice Court. All three appealed to the Corporation Court. The cases of Apter and Gadonas are also being heard by the jury today. State Officer Willlams stated today that the verdict of the jury in dis- missing Harris' case would not mean that there will be no more beer raids conducted here.
