CHICAGO, June 27.—Alternate wild advances and setbacks swept wheat up more than 6 cents today above yester- dsy’s 7% cents’ gain and at times took about 2 cents off the maximum. At the extreme top figures today wheat showed a rise of about 21 cents over last week's low and more than 52 cents since the beginning of the sea- son. Indications of showers over part of the wheat belt, giving promise of at least a little relief from drought and destructive high temperatures were largely responsible for huge profit-tak- ing operaticns and for temporary down- - turns from maximum priees, but high- est prices of the day were reached in the final quarter of an hour. SHARP BUYING G GAINS NOTED OVER MAY, 1932 Special Dispatch to The Star. MINNEAPOLIS, June 27.—The most encouraging economic situation in more that two years is reported by Investors’ Syndicate in the May figures of their monthly, Consumer Index. Nearly every factor in the Index registers a rising trend. 2 For the second successive month pay roll totals for the United States show a sharp gain over the preceding month, reversing the normal seasonal down- trend. The May improvement brought current wage totals almost up to the corresponding month of a year ago. Automobile buying also showed a greater gain in May than in April, with an increase of 21.5 per cent over the preceding month and sharply widened the gap over the wrrnspondlng month uf | year ago, with a bulge of 18.2 per Home building was the third factor in the Syndicate Index to register a gain for the second successive month in 1933.
