CLEVELAND, June 24.—Tremendous | losses in membership by railroad broth- erhoods during the last three years were studied today by committees discussing the feasibility of uniting the Brother- hood of Locomotive Engineers and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen. On January 1, 1930, the former organ- ization had about 90,000 members, while the latter had 110,000. Their member- ship at present is nearly equal, each having about 62,000. A plea for con-| solidation was made before the seventh | triennial convention of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers by David B. Robertson, president of the Brotherhood | of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen. | He termed the maintenance of separate | organizations “irrational and illogical.” SLAYER OF DRY AGENT KILLS SELF IN HAYFIELD ‘Wife Names Husband as Murderer and Tells of Suicide When Surrounded by Posse. JACOBY-BURNSTINE TOPBRIGE FIED Win All-America Auction Title and Help Capture Team- of-Four Honors. By the Assoctated Press, HANOVER, N. H,, June 24.—Auction bridge held the spotlight in the Whist Congress today as two internationalists, David Burnstine and Oswald Jacoby, carried off top honors in the All-Amer- ica championships. Jacoby and Burnstine, as members of the powerful Cavendish Club of New York, helped their mates, H. H. Bosco- witz and E. A. Wetzlar, win the All- America team-of-four championship by continuing their drive which carried them through the first session on top to finish with 1115 points The surprise of today’s championship was the slump of the Crockford- Knickerbocker Club, which won a sim- ilar title at contract yesterday. The New Yorkers finished last in a field of eight today, and playing for them was Baron ven Zedtwitz, who shared the title last year. The Massachusetts entries, the’ Deschapples Club of Boston and the Holyoke Whist Club, finished fifth and seventh, respectively, the Boston com- bination spurting from last place, which it held at the halfway mark. The Jacoby-Burnstine combination then went on to win the all-American auction title for pairs, the final seeing them pass the combination of George Unger and Mrs. Helene Scranton by only two and a half points in a 2511, total. The North-South group was ahead of the East-West in the final standing. Outside of the winners of the auc- tion pairs, the famed players did not fare so well today. Sydney S. Lentz and partner were seventh in the stand- ing, just ahead of the Boston combina- tion of Ben Ames Williams, author, P. Hal Sims and Arthur Ryan were fifth, due to a good second session.
