MOTHER’S DAY The problem of eliminating alley dwellings here, which has been con- sidered by Congress for many years, will be taken up by the Senate District ting called by Senator King also plans to rein duce the resolution he sponsored in the last Congress for an investigation of milk prices in the District, and he ex- ts to bring this matter to the at- ntion of the committee also on Fri- day. The resolution was reported to the Senate but not acted on in the last Congress. Regarding the alley dwelling situa- tion, Senator Capper, Republican, of | Kansas, former District chairman, has introduced a bill which contemplates discontinuance of the use of dwellings 1in alleys by 1943. The proposed method of them is to authorize the District Government to purchase the alley areas, remove existing structures, replat such areas, and then lease or sell these lands for other purposes. Senator Copeland, Democrat, of New ‘York also has introduced a bill closely related to the question. The Copeland bill seeks to eliminate “insanitary or otherwise unfit housing conditions which exist in certain areas of the Dis- trict” by authorizing the formation of limited dividend housing corporations to carty on new housing developments, subject to the regulation of a District Housing Board.
