A—8 =*x CHURCH PREPARES FOR EVANGELIST Dr. J. C. Massee of Atlanta to Start Series at Ep- worth M. E. All organizations in Epworth Metho- dist Episcopal Church South are plan- ning final activities in preparation for the series of evangelistic services which will be conducted by Dr. J. C. Massee of Atlanta, Ga., who will be assisted by Homer Rodeheaver, to begin April 2. For this reason Dr. John C. Copenhaver, the pastor, has announced that the reg- ular_service for the administration of the Lord's supper usually held on the first Sunday of the month will be ad- vanced to _tomorrow for the 11 o'clock service. The sermon topic will be “Pre- senting Our Bodies as Living Sacrifices.” For his evening sermon topic he will take “Why I Want My Companion to Be a Christian.” For this sermon Dr. Copenhaver has requested the younger members of the congregation to write him letters set- ting forth their answers to_this ques. tion. Excerpts‘from these letters will be read during the course of his sermon. The services of the Wesley Fellow- ship group will be held at 7 p.m. under the leadership of Miss Louise Bush, assisted by Mrs. Zora Hamilton. The subject for the evening will be “Wit- nessing for Christ in Our Daily Lives. A meeting of the usher group will be held in the church Tuesday evening. The meeting of the Hummer Memorial class has been advanced to Tuesday evening. ‘ “Cottage” prayer meetings Wwill be continued in the homes of several mem- bers of the church during the coming week, in preparation for the evange- listic’ services. At the Ninth Street Christian Church tomorrow the pastor, Rev. Clifford H. Jope, will have for his sermon subject in the morning, “Jesus and the Great Confession,” and at the evening serv- ice, “Jesus and His Miracles,” the sixtn and seventh sermons in his series on the Life of Christ. The communion service will precede the sermon in the morning worship. The choir at the morning service will sing and in the evening the or- chestra will present a musical program. The Junior Church will meet in the church_house at 11 o'clock. The Eureka Bible class will meet all day Tuesday at the church and at 6:30 pm. the Miriam class will hold a meeting and supper. The Sunday morning service of the Gunton-Temple Memorial Presbyterian Church will be at 11 o'clock, with a Lenten sermon by the pastor, Dr. Bern- ard Braskamp. At the teachers’ meeting Tuesday eve- ning officers were elected and honor- able recognition was given to George Prevost, for 50 years as superintendent of the school. JOHN WEIDLEY. ‘The 27th anniversary of Dr. John Weidley, as pastor of the Lutheran Church of the Reformation, will be ob- served tomorrow with special exercises. Dr. Weidley came to Washington in 1906 from Pittsburgh, where he served a church for nearly a quarter of a century. He is the president of the board of directors of the Lutheran | Theological Seminary at Gettysburg »|{and of the National Lutheran Home for Aged in Washington. He has twice | been president of the Maryland Synod and represented that body at the con- ventions of the United Lutheran Church in America.
