By the Associated Press. FORT LYON, Colo., February 9.— Old Frank, a pensioned Government | horse, known here as one of a team that drew the presidential*carriage in the inaugural parade of President Wil- liam McKinley, is dead. A telegram has been sent to Washing- ton from the Veterans Bureau Hospital here asking whether military honors shall be granted at a funeral. Old Frank, known in recent years as | “Old McKinley,” has roamed at will| over the Government reservation. Fif- teen years ago he was sent to Fort Lyon | when the Navy had charge of the post. | Since then he had never been in harness except once, when George Backman, farm superintendent, hitched him to a wagon for light work. As| soon as information of this reached Washington, a telegram came back stat- | ing not a gep of leather was to be put on Frank. | Of late years he was never haltered, | and if he took a notion to leave the| barn to feed on the parade grounds he was at liberty to do so. Flower gardens and lawns might have suffered at times, but Old Frank never was molested. CHEYENNE FOUNDER DIES William M. Masi Was Member of Gen. Henry Dodge’s Party.
