Bpecial Dispatch to The PLATTSBURG, N. sbruary 3. Dr. Romeo E. Hyde, 91, father of Dr. L. ‘W. Hyde of Washington and former mayor of Plattsburg and this city’s last survivor of the Civil War, died here Wednesday night after a long filness. Dr. Hyde suffered a shock of paralysis in New York City a year ago while re- turning to Plattsburg after a Winter spent in Washington. He was born in West Chazy and at 18 enlisted in the Army, being one of the first to volunteer in the old 96th Volun- teers. He saw much fighting with the Army of the Potomac and was present at the fall of Richmond. Later he did military duty through Virginia, North and South Carolina. Survivors include another son, John F. Hyde of Dallas, Tex., and two daugh- ters, Mrs. John W. Wright, wife of Col. Wright, professor of military science at the University of Missouri, and Mrs. G. D. Ross, wife of Capt. Ross of Fort Devens, Mass. He also leaves & sister, Mrs. J. E. Nightingale of Chazy. Dr. Le Roy W. Hyde of Washington has practiced medicine here since the World War. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia, completing his work there in 1916, and served overseas in the World War. He went to his father's home for the funeral. His home is at 4701 Connecticut avenue. LOIS MORAN PROPOSES WELFARE WORK ACTION Stage Star Pleads for Project to Care for Unemployed Actors and Actresses. Miss Lois Moran, stage star appearing here this week, urged Washingtonians to take the lead in some welfare proj- ect for the benefit of unempleyed and homeless actors and actresses, at a meeting of social workers and clergy- men yesterday in the headquarters of the Central Application Bureau. Advocating a Nation-wide program for the special benefit of needy stage performers, Miss Moran sald: “In New York all actors and actresses who have jobs are voluntarily giving 1 per cent of their salaries to those out of work. Benefit performances, from which proceeds go into a relief fund, are given on Sundays. Just before we came to Washington, our cast contrib- uted $2,500 to the actors’ relief work.” Linden Hears School Talk.
