'SHARE-WORK' MOVE SURVEY IS STARTED Commerce and Labor Units Begin Study of 200,000 Employers. A Nation-wide survey among 200,000 df the largest employers of labor has been undertaken by the Commerce and Labor Departments to determine to what extent the “share-the-work move- ment” is preserving work for American job_ holders. Secretary of Commerce Chapin said yesterday afternoon the Government was undertaking the task at the re- quest of Walter C. Teagle, chairman of the National Share-the-Work Commit- tee. Mr. Teagle is also president of the Standard Oil Co. of New Jersey and one of the leaders in the five-day week movement in this country. Secretary Chapin_explained he and Secretary of Labor Doak were going to give the survey their personal super- vision in an effort to stimulate the movement. A _joint letter signed by the cabinet officials called employers’ attention to the success of the move- ment thus far. They estimated that 3,500,000 persons had been given em- ployment under this plan. The letter pointed out that as Winter advances it Is urgently necessary to use every effort to provide as much em- loyment as possible. President Wil- iam Green of the American Federa- tion of Labor stated recently less some Nation-wide movem undertaken approximately wage earners would be joblcss January 1. NEW YORK STATE GETS LOAN OF $30,400,000 by ka1t of Money to Be Used to Care|f for Jobless—Interest Rate Fixed at 3.0273 Per Cent. By the Associated Press. 'York Wednesday borrowed $30,400,000, half of which will go for care of the State's jobless, at the lowest interest Tate in the State’s history. Chase Harris Forbes Corporation of New York City, successful bidder, offered to take the State's bonds and charge only 3.0273 per cent interest. This rate on the bonds, some of which do not mature until 1982, is appre- clably lower than the previous low of 3.2289, which the State paid on a bond issue of $40,000,000 last year. An hour after Controller Morris 8. Tremaine announced that the Chase Harris Forbes Corporation had sub- mitted the lowest bid it was stated in [New York financial circles that 75 per cent of the $30,400.000 had been sold to investors, the shorter term bonds ylelding from 3 to 1 per cent and the longer term issues up to 3.15 per cent.
