PRICES UNCHANGED AT CURB'S CLOSE Last-Hour Sales Offset Most of Gains Made Earlier in Day. BY JOHN A. CRONE. | Special Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, December 5—Stocks | on the Curb Exchange today closed with slight price changes as last hour- selling canceled most of the gains rec- ords earlier in the session. Among the market leaders, Electric Bond & Share, which was ex-dividend today, ran up more than a point at one time, but slipped back in the late trading. American Gas & Electric was more active than usual on a fractional rise. Cities Service eased in the last hour, while Standard Oil of Indiana firmed up. Koppers Gas & Coke Co. of Pitts- burgh declared the regular quarterly dividend of $1.50 on the 6 per cent preferred, but the stock was inactive. ‘Wait on Sidelines. Pending some definite idea of the outcome of the debt problem and ac- tion on various problems in Congress, traders preferred the sidelines. In this attitude they were encouraged by the various news of trade made public over the week end and the renewed decline of commodities, as shown by various in- dices. Outstandingly strong in today's fore- noon session was the stock of Novadel flour. It is said by the market sponsors of the stock that 1932 earnings will ex- ceed those of 1931, which were $6.02 a share, and that “it is rumored an in- take place.” On the publication of such an analysis, the stock reached a new peak for the year. It is now more than | double its low price of several months | ago. One of the few commodity indices that did not decline during the last week was chemicals, which perhaps, accounted for the activity and stead- iness of American Cyanamid B. Monroe Chemical declared its regular quarterly preferred. Eastern Steamship also paid its regular preferred. Although the street hears there has been some accumulation of the motors on a down scale, in anticipation of the New York automobile show next month —such stocks usually being given & whirl during the exhibit—this has not Auto Reports Cheerful. Trade reports from the automotive industry today were encouraging, but ‘Waukesha Motor Co. reduced its com- mon quarterly dividend from 50 cents to 30 cents. Perfect Circle, which has been reporting good business, disbursed the usual quarterly of 50 cents on the common. The store group is another class of | securities acting in an unseasonal man- | ner. Usually they are being bid up in anticipation of Christmas business. J.| J. Newberry, however, eased today on its first few trades. ~ Butier Brothers | also was a shade lower. National Bellas Hess was firm. Mangel Stores pointed upwards. Commonwealth Edison for a time was the weakest spot in the higher- priced public utilities, as it opened off | 3 points. Later it recovered partially. | Metropolitan Edison preferred and Elec- tric Bond & Share $5 preferred eased | while ‘New York Telephone preferred and Cleveland Electric Illuminating | moved ahead.
