500 MIDDIES BACK FROMLONG CRUISE Describe Entertainments and Storm Encountered on Way Home. Epecial Dispatch to The Star. ANNAPOLIS, September 23.—With memories of entertainment and sport events in Halifax and Ponta Delgada and ‘a heavy storm while homeward bound, approximately 500 members of the first and third classes at the Naval Academy landed yesterday. ‘The first boatload of returning mid- shipment, who left Annapolis on Au- gust 1, landed at the Reina Mercedes dock soon after 7 am. The debarking took about an hour and a half. The half section of the Naval Academy Band, which made the cruise, played as the midshipmen left the battle- ship Wyoming. The battleship will re- main off Annapolis for about a month. ! Silent on Liquor Cases. The Academy authorities said they had no comment to make on the re- port that four midshipmen were cited as class A offenders for alleged drink- ing during the cruise. On the last leg of the cruise from Halifax the Wyoming. on September 9, passed through a typical West Indian hurricane. The storm center passed to ! the southward very close to the battle- ship, between 3 and 4 p.m. The baro- meter dropped to 28.54 inches and the wind rose to 80 miles an hour, accom- panied by a driving rainstorm. The ship , rolled 36 degrees as it plowed its way through the heavy seas. While the midshipmen were in Hali- fax several athletic contests were held between the midshipmen and the local teams. The Navy entered four-man crews in each of the junior and senior races, held as part of tenth anniversary rowing regatta of the Jubilee Athletic Club on Labor day. Wrestling and box- ing bouts were held at the Halifax arena. Navy Swimmers Win. Navy swimmers defeated the Waeg- woltic team in the cold water of the Northwest Arm on September 3 by & score of 45-25. A pick-up eleven, headed by Capt. Jack Dillon and men of varsity experience, including some who had played in Ponta Delgada, met the St. George's Aces in a game of “foot ball,” and lost, 3-0. It was the British foot ball, which the midshipmen knew &s soccer. TRAP SET FOR ROBBERS | OPERATES TOO SLOWLY Business Man’s Buzzer Brings Po- lice After $1,300 Is Taken. Visit Is Second.
