NEW YORK, June 27.—Philanthro- pists were enjoined in a survey made public yesterday to endow the seven leading women's colleges in the United States with the generosity bestowed on men’s colleges. An advisory council composed of Newton D. Baker, Bernard M. Baruch, James Byrne, Thomas W. Lamont, the Right Rev. William Lawrence and Owen D. Youpg directed its report to the |, presidents of Barnard. Bryn Mawr, Mount Holyoke, Radcliffe, Smith, Vas- sar and Wellesley. “After a gallant century of pioneer endeavor the women's colleges must not %l for lack of material support,” they said. “They have proved their case; they have fully played their part in the intellectual and artistic develop- ment of this country. Their only er- yor, perhaps, has been a too great mod- esty “We commend their future to those who discern the truth that no other factor in the intellectual life of Amer- jca is more important than the col- leges for women.” The advisory council listed the im- mediate financial requirements of the colleges named for general endowment scholarships and fellowships, salaries and new buildings, as follows: Barnard, $3,750,000. Bryn Mawr, $2,400,000. Mount Holyoke, $2,650,000 Radcliffe, $4,945,000. Smith, $5,850,000 Vassar, $4,550,000. ‘Wellesley, $5,500,000.
