Most other farm products may be grouped as fairly steady in price. Butter markets were unsettled, with slow demand. Old potatoes recovered a littte at some points because of temporary interrup- tion of supplies, but the Chicago po‘ato market continued weak. Strawberries opening of the week was mainly bearish on account of the failure of stocks to respond to the vorious favorable factors in the week previous. Houses that a short time ago regarded the passage of the tax bill the completion of gold ship- ments to Europe, the defeat of the bonus bill and the operation of the bond pool as influences likely to set a buying movement in motion, were today in- clined to hedge and to suggest that their clients postpone purchases until the market situation becomes clearer. Bondholders realize that, given both disarmament and war debt cancellation, the position of European dollar bonds would be vastly improved. As a consequence there was heavy buying of German and other European bonds here today. Young Plan 5!5s and Dawes Plan 7s both reached new highs on the recovery. German bank bonds reached levels about 8 to 11 points above their 1932 lows, German industrials, utilities and municipals also advanced. The appreciation in the group now amounts to about $130,000.000 on the $1.309,000.000 of German dollar bonds listed on the New York Stock Exchange. | Austrian 7s are now about 24 points above their 1932 low. Hog prices have recovered sharply from th: ex treme lows of early June and fed catile have been selling better. Millfceds sell at low levels, but generally good pas- turage conditicns have displaced much of the trade for the present. Most Vegetables Lower. returning $2.25 per barrel, or $1.25 per 100-pound sack, at shipping points. Shippers of Green Mountains in Northern Maine were getting mostly 25 to 30 cents per 100 pounds, but terminal prices on Maine stock declined slightly. City jobbing prices strengthened slightly on Texas onlons. Georgia early peaches brought $2.50 a basket in pu)(lll(lng sections. Watermelon prices Cantaloupes *were slow and k. Tomato prices tended downward ! as supplies increased. Consuming cca- ers were higher on Western letuuce were steady to weaker on Eastern Big Boston type at 60 cents to $1 per crate of two dozen heads. Butter Fairly Steady. The butter markets during mid-June showed little definite change. The volume of butter changing hands and going directly into storage was small as compared with former years. East- ern markets reported a fairly large volume' of sales for storage purposes with chain stores, bakers and jobbers operating quite freely, especially at Bos- |ton and New York, while at Philadel- |phia buying for storage was of com- paratively small volume. The receipts of butter at the Eastern markets were heavy as compared with those of a year ago. Quality of arrivals has been quite satisfactory 8s no unseasonably high temperatures have prevailed. Receivers in general are of the opinion that the make has reached the height of sea- \son’s output. Heavier storing, de- | creasing consumption and the uncer- tain industrial outlook were all factors making for the nervous and unsettled | undertone. | The tone of the city cheese markets was steady on fresh and firm on cured | cheese. Prices remained generally un- | changed. The bulk of riving in terminal markets during the second week of June was of the full- grass type, but trading was still re- stricted by an unusually conservative speculative demand. Firm Egg Markets. | Egg markets since the middle of the month have shown a slightly firmer tone. Buyers generally were in the | market for somewhat heavier require- | ments and supplies were fairly closely cleard. Fractional advances brought prices slightly higher at New York. a | fotal advance of about 1 cent being reported since the first of June. The lowest Spring price level for eggs for over 20 vears is considered the main | cause of reduction of farm flocks to the smallest numbers ever reported in June. LUMBER OUTPUT IS HELD.
