THE EVENING STAR, WASHINGTON, D. C, MONDAY, JANUARY 25, 1932. DONT reave us PLEASE give us a CHANCE ! ~ We're helpless without YOU! Have you had some bad breaks in the past two years, fellow Washingtonian? Business notso good? Income below normal? Or, perhaps, jobs hard to find? The children cared for by the Community Chest are sorry. They know what hard luck is, too. They aren’t complaining about it . . . perhaps their troubles aren’t important after all. Some of them were orphaned when they were very lit- tle. Some of them were unwanted babies . . . aban- doned. Some were taken away from tuberculous par- ents, and need special feeding and care. Others have bodies broken by automobiles, or wasted by sickness. They aren’t asking much. They don’t need a stock market boom or a wave of business prosperity to keep them happy. All they require is a continuance of the care that will give them a fair start in life. But we don’t know what would become of them if the hospitals and clinics and homes maintained by the Community Chest were forced to close . . . or if medical and nursing care were suddenly withdrawn. There are thousands of little children . . . helpless with- out you. Can’t you hear them say, “Don’t leave us. You'll “put it over,” won’t you?
