I Organized Reserves | Approval was grven last week by Col. Melville S. Jarvis, Infantry, senior in- structor of the Organized Reserves in Washington, of the 1931-32 inactive training schedule of District Ordnance Reserve officers. This _instructional program, which will begin on October 22, 1s composed of eight conferences, the first of which will be conducted by Capt. James W. Walters, Ordnance Depart- | ment, who will discuss ordnance main- tenance in the field. This same sub- ject will be discussed by Capt. Walters at the conference to b held on Novem- ber 12. Ordnance maintenance in the office of the chief of ordnance will be discussed by Mr. S. Ireland at the as- sembly to be held on December 10. The first instructional conference of | the 1932 calendar year will be held on January 14 under the direction of Capt Walters, who will lecture on inspection and maintenance of small arms. The next_two conferences will be conducted by Capt. Walters, the one on February 11 embracing inspection and mainte- nance of the automatic rifie and the 37-mm. gun, while inspection and main- tenance of the machine gun will be taken up at the March 10 meeting. Mr. M. V. McLaughlin will lecture on the inspection and maintenance of the 75- mm. gun on April 14, while the final conference of the 1931-32 season, to be held on May 12, under the direction of Capt. Waiters, will pertain to ordnance with the division, ‘Two instructional conferences will be held at Washington Reserve headquar- ters tomorrow evening, viz, Quarter- master s and Chemical Warfare Service. e Reserve quartermasters of the District will hear Capt. F. V. Fitzgerald, Q. M. C, lecture on Soviet Russia, while the Chemical Warfare Assembly will consist of an orientation | talk by Capt. E. P. H. Gempel, Chem- | ical Warfare Service Reserve policies will be discussed by Col. C. D. Herron, Infantry, executive for Reserve affairs in the War Depart- ment, at the Coast Artillery confer- ence to be held at local Reserve head- quarters next Tuesday evening. At this same meeting, Capt. Thomas J. Betts, C. A. C, will discuss plans for the 1931-32 school year. Air Corps Reservists of the District will meet next Tuesday evening. Col. W. H. Wilson, G. S., will conduct the military intelligence’ meeting at Re- serve headquarters next Wednesday evening, at which will be taken up negative intelligence. Two colored men who used the an- cient “pocketbook game” to rob Hanna | Jeffries, colored, of $300, are being sought by police. The woman reported the men, whom she met on the street, told her they had found a purse containing $700 in large bills. Explaining they expected some difficulty in changing the bills, they offered to pay her if she would obtain several hundred dollars’ worth of change. The woman withdrew her money from bank, put it in a pocketbook and met the men again, she sald. One of them grabbed the purse and the pair fled, she added.
