He is Bast- ern program dlm:m but continues to announce some network programs. Carlin entered tt:e ndlolfll]d in e early days when broadcasting stations actually advertised for an. nouncers. He qual ified in an audi- tion at the old ‘WEAF station and wag so skeptical of radio’s future that he retained anoth- er job for six months. In February, 1927, Carlin be came manager of ‘WEAF. With the organization of N. B. C. in the Fall of the seme year he was appointed assist- ant Eastern director, later be- coming ass in charge of programs. His latest pro- motion was in the Fall of 1929. During the years intervening since he first became an announcer, Carlin Phillips Carlin. epochal events in the broadcasting world. War was declared and he joined the Navy, later becoming instructor in navigation at the Pelham Naval Re- serve School. After the war Carlin sold Holstein cows in Pennsylvania and New Jersey to Frenchmen who were nhnbmnun‘ the dairy farms of France. This was followed by a job in a salt company and later affiliation with an exporting concern.
