REAL ESTATE. SPECIALIST GROUP INSPECTS HOUSES Silver Star Homes Demon- stration Program Advanced by Party’s Tour. The group of specialists of various lines of house construction and home building work who comprise the Sil- ver Star Homes Commiitee, preparing for the 1931 better homes demonstra- tion to be sponsored by The Star, spent & busy day and interesting afternoon this week inspecting a number of houses submitted by builders for en- trance in the program. The familiarity with the problems of home building and home ownership ghown by the official members of the party was evidence of the care with | which they are planning the Silver | Star Homes demonstration. Undeterred by Rain. ‘The ccmn , despite a continued drizzle of rain that marked the day, showed no disposition to postpone the inspection tour and at times plunged | unhesitatingly ~across the muddy grounds of the raw soil of the site of incompleted house projects in order to see closely how the work was pro- gressing. The committee will meet again next week to proceed with inspection of houses submitted for consideration in the program and shortly will render decision as to the first house to be sponsored. | The committee has set a high standard for a house deemed worthy of public demonstration under spon- sorship of The Star so that the public v be invited to inspect houses not| 11y good in design, plan and all other phases of treatment but of exceptional merit. Members of Committee. The committee consists of James S. Taylor of the Division of Building and Housing of the Department of Com- merce; Gilbert Rodier, past president cf the local chapter, American Insti- | tute of Architects; Dr. Louise Stanley, chief Bureau of Home Economics, De- partment of Agriculture; Arthur Carr, | president Washington = Real Estate | Board; Miss Harlean James, executive secretary American Civic Association; | John H. Here, 100, | says the professor, the farm land agents have overlooked their importance by sometimes falling to concentrate on| properties that would be pleasing to the | farmer's wife. There are five major appeals that get the farmer on the dotted line, and one | of these is consideration for his wife | in making a purchase that she will like.
