Mme. Lydia O. Panaretoff, wife of Dr. Stephen Panaretoff, former Min- ister from Bulgaria to the Upited States, died at her home, 1868 Columbia road, late yesterday from a heart at- tack. She was stricken shortly before 6 o'clock. Mme. Panaretofl had long been prom- inent in social life and her gracious ness and charming manner won for her high esteem in diplomatic circles. Dr. Panaretoff had the distincjion of being Bulgaria’s first Minister to the United States and served from 1914 until re- linquishing his duties in 1925. Was Massachusetts Native. Mme. Panaretoff took an active in- terest in varfous welfare activities in the National Capital. She was especial- ly interested in the Juvenile Protective Association, the Instructive Visiting Nurses Socfety and the Washington Community Chest. She was a mem- ber of the Washington Club. A native of North Andover, Mass., Mme. Panaretoffl was the daughter of the late Oliver and Augusta Gile. was educated at Mount Holyoke College and later taught at the American Col- lege for Girls at Constantinopel, Met in Constantinople. It was while in Constantinople that Mme. Panaretoffl met her husband. ‘They were married July 4, 1892. ‘She first came to this city when Dr. Panaretofl assumed his dutles as Min- ister in 1914. After he relinquished his post Dr. and Mme. Panaretoff con- tinued to reside in this city. Besides her husband, Mme. Panaretoff is survived by a brother, Arthur O. Gile of North Andover.
