Following the funeral services here, the body was taken to Battle Creek, Mich., for burial. Mrs. Reavis’ ancestors, on her moth- ers’ side, came from Holland to New York City in 1663, among the first set- tlers there. Her father was Jonah Roger Lewis, a direct descendant of Roger Williams. She was educated in the public schools of Michigan and taught there several years before mar- rying Mr. Reavis. They moved to Ta- koma Park when the Review and Herald Publishing Association was moved there from Battle Creek. . MISS E. W. BOWEN DIES ALLENTOWN, Pa., February 19 (®). Miss Elizabeth Weaver Bowen, 77, author of several novels and one of the first women to advocate higher educa- tion for her sex, is dead at her home here. NEW YORK, February 19.—South- west mining achieved a national dis- tinction last night when the annual Saunders Medal of the American In- stitute of Mining and Metallurgical En- gineers was presented to Francis W. MacLennan, general manager of the Miami Copper Co., Miami, Ariz. The medal is presented each year for distinguished achievement in mining. It was awarded two years ago to President Hoover, Mr. MacLennan won it for his serv- ices to the copper-mining industry in perfecting a process for refining low- grade copper ores. Six years ago the Miami company faced a serious future because of the ex haustion of its supply of high-grade ore. Mr. MacLennan, who had geen general manager since 1919, worked out his method of using low-grade ores econom- fcally and saved the day. He was born in Cornwall, Canada, 55 years ago and was graduated as an elec- trical engineer from McGill University |in 1898, After a short post-graduate | course in Europe he declded to become a mining_ engineer. Beginning in British Columbia, his mining experience led him to Oregon, Utah and Navada and to Peru before he | joined the Miami mine. Elliott H. Goodwin, 57, an official of the Chamber of Commerce of the United States from 1912 to 1927, died at a Boston hospital Sunday, according to information recelved here. He entered the hospital February 1 for an operation and seemed improving until pneumonia set in last week. Mr. Goodwin was appointed to the post of general secretary of the Cham- ber of Commerce in 1912, serving in thi: capacity until 1920, when the post of resident vice president was created and he was named to fill it. signed as vice president and returned to his home in Cambridge, Mass. In 1927 he was appointed a State civil service commissioner by Gov. Fuller of Massachusetts, which position he held until. his death, He held the degrees of bachelor of arts and master of arts from Harvard and the doctor of philosophy degree from the University of Leipzig.
