USE OF RESERVOR FORPLAY OPPOSD \ Petition Proposed to Halt Conversion of Sixteenth Street Basin. ‘The ng of a petition by citizens to prevent the conversion of the Six- teenth Street Reservoir site into a rec- reation center was urged by G. B. Bishop at a meeting of the Sixteenth Street Highlands Citizens’ Association in the Sixth Presbyterian Church last night. Bishop, who is the association’s dele- gate to the Federation of Citizens’ As- sociations, urged that all citizens living along Sixteenth street south from the reservoir site as far as Hamline M. E. Church, Sixteenth and Allison streets, +and north to Madison street sign such a petition. Bishop's suggestion was referred to Edgar C. Snyder, chairman of the asso- ciation’s committee seeking to prevent the changing of the reservoir site into @ recreation center. Snyder at last night's meeting de- clared that Lieut. Col. U. S. Grant, 3d, director of public buildings and public parks in the National Capital, had told him that the reservoir site would not be developed into a recreation center for_at least another year. Snyder sald that about a foot or more of water has been run into the basin of the old reservoir to make it available for skating purposes if the water freezes solid this Winter, The Sixtenth Street Highlands Citi- zens' Association at a previous meeting went on record as opposing the develop- ment of a recreation center on the reservoir site. It urged that the site b> made a “beauty spot” by the develop- ment of sunken gardens there, or through other special treatment. Dr. Lewis J. Battle, president of the association, presided at the meeting. PLEADS FOR STOCK AID ENGLAND, Arl February 3 (#).— Mayor W. O. Williams, of England, yesterday telegrapled Senator Joe T.
