BAPTIST LEADER COMING TO PARLEY _ Dr. Albert W. Beaven to Con- duct Conference of Pas- tors on Monday. Albert W. Beaven, president of the Northern Baptist Convention, will conduct a conference with the pastors | of the Baptist churches at 11 o'clock Monday, and will address a mass meet- ing at the Calvary Baptist Church at 8 o'clock that night. Dr. Beaven is cumlng in his official capacity as president of the Northern Baptist Convention. He is also presi- | dent of the Colgate-Rochester Divinity ! School, and before taking that position | he was for 20 years pastor of the Lake | Avenue Baptist Church, Rochester, | N. Y. He is a specialist in the field of | religious _education. He is also an author. He developed the “Wednesday Night Club” idea for the midweek serv- ice, the “Church Service Corps” of parish organization. A joint committee of the Baptist Pastors’ Conference, and the Laymen’s Movement has in charge the special ar- rangements for Dr. Beaven's visit to Washington, and he will also appear under the auspices of the Baptist Sun- day School Superintendents’ Associa- tion, the Woman's Missionary Associa- tion and the B. PIERCE T0 CONTINUE SERIES Topic Tomorrow to Be “What Is Left of the Bible"—Mrs. Learned Will Speak. “What Is Left of the Bible?” is the subject of the sermon by Dr. Ulysses G. B. Plerce, minister of All Souls' Church (Unitarian), Sixteenth and Harvard streets, tomorrow at the 11 o'clock morning service. This is the second in a series of sermons on “The Unitarian Message in a Day of Spirit- ual Confusion.” The church school will meet at 9:45 o'clock. The speaker at the book chat, which takes place in the alliance room at 5:30 p.m., will be Mrs. H. Barrett YLearned. She will review “The Let- ters of Henry Adams” and the recent blography of Charles W. Eliot, by Henry James. The young people will have a fireside circle meeting at 6:45 nclock following a supper. Communion service will be observed. In the evening he will preach on “Horses and Chariots of Fire.” Instead of meeting Wednesday morn- ing, the Woman's Society will meet next week on Wednesday evening at 8 o'clock. The session will be preceded by & meeting of the Executive Commit- tee at 7:30 o’clock. ‘The Ahn Hasseltine Judson Circle will meet at 2 o'clock Tuesday at the home of its president, Mrs. E. A. McCartney will observe tomorrow, the first anniversary of his pastorate at the Covenant-First Pres- byterian Church. He came here from California as minister of the Church of the Covenant. Since that time the old First Presbyterian Church has united with the Covenant and the name has been changed to the Covenant-First Presbyterian Church. This church has been designated the National Presby- termn Church by the General Assembly, i U. 8. A. Dr. McCartney will deliver a brief address at the 11 o'clock service with relation to the work of the past year and administer the saqrament of the Lord’s supper. Walter H. Newton, secretary to Presi- dent Hoover, will address the Sunday school tomorrow at 10 o'clock. Dr. Newton Preston Patterson, associ- ate minister, left Friday for a brief so- journ in California. A feature of the service last Sunday was the dedication of a cross presented to the church by Mrs. Robert Lansing in memory of her husband, former Secretary of State, who served in the administration of President Wilson.
