- SCHOOL MILITARY - DRILLTO CONTINUE Retirement of 48 Army Offi- cers Not Expected to Stop Training Here. Students in Washington and Vir- ginia high schools and colleges who are now receiving military instruction from eight retired Army officers who are drawing extra pay for this work, are not likely to have the military trainin, cut off, although the War Departmen has recommended to a de- crease of 48 in the total of 149 retired officers doing such work throughout the country. ‘This means a saving of $37,518 in ex- tra pay for such duty by retired offi- cers, which is blanketed into the War Department appropriation bill, which is expected to be called up in the House for approval tomorrow. ‘The assignment of such retired offi- cers in Washington and nearby Vir- ginia is as follows: Washington high schools, 4; Howard University, 1; St. John's College, 1; Alexandria High School, 1, and Arlington County High School, at Clarendon, 1. Just what the new assignments will be will not be disclosed until next month at least and probably not until late in March or early in April. However, assurance was given at the ‘War Department today that even if the officers now assigned to the high schools, St. John’s College and Howard University are among those to be dropped from such service the work will probably be carried along by as- uflmem of active officers.
