S FLYERSDE INTHO CRSHES Rip in Wing Causes Fatal Dive in Missouri and Fog Brings Texans Down. By the Assoclated Press. ST. JOSEPH, Mo., January 5.—The wreckage of a monoplane which carried three men to their deaths in a roaring power dive was the subject of an inves- tigation here today by a Department of Commerce inspector. ‘The plane had been taken skyward for the final test for cross-country races at Miami, Fla. Two miles from Rose- crans airport, where the craft took off, the pilot pointed the nose of the ship downward. He had reached an esti- mated speed of 200 miles an hour, when observers at the airport saw a square of fabric rip from the upper surface of the left wing. Then the plane went into a crazy twisting spin and crashed to _earth. The dead, all of whom lived here, were: Winston L. Hyatt, pilot of the plane and operator of an airplane service. Leroy Riemer, a pilot Harold E. Payne, a mechanical dent- t. All were dead when rescuers reached the scene. The plane’s motor had buried itself in the slope of a ravine. THREE FLYERS DIE IN FOG. Orash Into Tree at Overton, Tex.; Heard Mile Off By Farmer. OVERTON, Tex., January 5 (®).—A dense fog was blamed today for the loss of three lives yesterday in the crash of an airplane against a forest pine. ‘The mist veiled treetop brought death to H. Addison Noever, | City, pilot; Tom Holcombe, 20, of Mid- land, Tex., a student fiyer, and Horace F. Clark, 26, president of the United Guaranty Securities Co., of Dallas. | Torn loose by the impact, the plane’s | engine was buried beside the shattered tree. T. C. Bradberry, farmer, reported the crash could be heard a mile distant. He said he had seen the plane banking Jow in the fog as though seeking a landing place. » ‘The party was returning from Shreve- port, La., to Dallas. Robinson $30,000 for “slandering and humiliating” him by expelling him from the Spokane County Medical So- , announced today they would appeal the case. ‘The verdict, returned last night, gave the award to Robinson, who had sued for $60,000. He has a libel suit for $30,000 pending against Dr. Charles B. ard and Dr. Carroll Smith for pub- hing charges against him in a medi- cal journal. ‘The case began with a malpractice suit, Robinson contended, in which he testified against a doctor who had per- formed an operation improperly on & girl. Robinson said this “‘set the doctors against him.” He was ousted from the medical society on a charge of “keeping im- || proper records” in a hospital.
