THE EVENING From the Front Row Rgviews and News of Washington's Theaters. “Those Three French Girls,” Genuine Romance With Interlude. ERSONALITY in language is among the things of which P. G. ‘Wodehouse appears’'to haye a vast knowledge. His neatly devised but in- tensely humor- ous lines of con- versation make his characters creations in a class by them- selves. His con- tribution to the obvious merit of “Those Three French Girls,” the new attrac- tion at the Rialto, has ail the customary display of unique charac- ter, and in ad- dition gives new quality to the voluble outpour- 1ng€ of the traditional Latin per- former on ‘he stage. If the actors have mixed a little of the New Orleans French with the Parisian, it merely tends to give variety to a production which, from all appear- ances, is intended merely for laugh- ing purposes. The most interesting development is in the fact that, while other writers have employed linguistic features as incidents of a plot, Mr. ‘Wodehouse makes the plot incidental to several lines of clever conversa- tion, The story is from the pens of Dale van Every and Arthur Freed, ind it goes along briskly from the ning scene to the closing incident of a genuine romance which has been interrupted from time to time with intimations that it isn't really a romance but a Parisian interlude. From the visual standpoint, about the most impressively humorous thing in the farce is the scene in & French prison, where a British nobleman, two American war vet- Yola d'Avril. MARSHFIELD, Wis, January 2.—January is going to be ex- tremely cold, if the prediction based on Ewald Benesch's onion turns out.as he expects it will.
