BERLIN TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS HAVE SLUMP Busses and Underground Railways Hit by Fare Reduc- tions in Taxi War. BERLIN (N.AN.A).—The trams, busses and underground railways, all of which are owned by the munlclrmy of Berlin, are suffering a heavy s) mp in business. , Far too many people &re walking or taking taxis. The war being waged, between the different groups of taximen has brought about an amazing reduction in fares, s0 that over some distances it is cheaper to travel by taxi than by undemm\md tram or bus.. Moreover, the taximen are offering strange presents to f.h!l'l: fares. You may see a taxi labeled “egg’ and if you take a ride in it you may, like the curate, have an egg in your tea afterward, because the driver will give you a new-laid one when you get out. If this idea develops there is no knowing what blessings may not be showered upon the taxi-rider. A trip round the city may provide the haus- frau with her week’s groceries and save her the tedium of shopping.
