A potpourri of special programs, both gay and religious, night's radio offerings which will pre- ceed and follow the moment when Father Time closes the books of the; old year and starts on the pages of the ! pew. Both local chain stations, WRC and WMAL, will carry a wealth of the cele- bration programs originating in various Europe and South America, and the two local sta- tions, WJSV and WOL, also will sig- special offerings. The last of the New Year eve programs will end at 3:30 am., and tomorrow special events will be_renewed. Early tomorrow afternoon WRC will rebroadcast a New Year greeting from Premier Mussolini, spoken in English, from his headquarters in Rome, and an hour later, at 3 o'clock tomorrow, there is to be a musical broadcast from Greetings in more than 50 foreign languages also will be broadcast from 3:45 to 4:45 tomorrow afternoon by G{w N. B. C. network stations in New York. Foreign Programs. ‘The Columbia System and WMAL will offer from 10 pm. to 2 a.m. por- tions of the New Year dance music and celebrations staged in Buenos Alires, Montreal and Toronto, Canada, and from Boston, Los Angeles, Chicago, To- ledo and New York. The coming of the new year will be heralded at 6:58 o'clock this evening, two minutes before the arrival of the new year in London, with the opening notes of Big Ben, atop the House of Parliament in Lon- don. The New Year blessings by the Archbishop of Canterbury will be heard hzu during this international broad- Rldlo under the dér:cfion of Lhe Father night, catching up with him on five occasions to catch New Year celebra- tions and dance music, all to be heard here through WRC. During the four- hour period from 11:30 p.m. to 3:30 am. 12 dance orchestras will be heard from New York, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Vincent Lopez, Horace Heidt, Johnnie Hamp, Paul Whiteman, Phil Spitalny, Jimmy the programs. Gladys Rice, soprano, and Douglas Stanbury, baritone, will be heard over WRC at 8:30 o'clock during the pro- gram of Shilkret’s 55-plece concert or- chestra. ‘The ial seasonal programs, how- ever, will not eliminate from the day’s | broadcast the regular offerings by Amos ‘n’ Andy, Uncle Abe and David or Phil Cook.
