Ricard, head of the astronomical department of the Univer- sity of Santa Clara, suffered a relapse last night and his condition was so critical the last rites of the church were administered. Father Ricard was confined at a sanitarium here from January to Sep- tember with a failing heart. He recov- ered sufficlently to return to the uni- versity, althcugh his condition pre- vented his resuming his duties there.
